Nothing Without Christ

There is something common in the next three words: Christendom, Christianity and Christian. They are all centered on the word Christ. Remove Christ from these words and you end up with a religion instead of Christendom, remove Christ from Christianity, you end up with Churchanity, remove Christ from Christian, you end up with these three letters: IAN - I am nothing.

Without Christ you end up with no meaning in any of the above titles. Knowing Christ is everything.

Choosing Christianity

Every man must choose his world. If we who follow Christ, with all the facts before us and knowing what we are about, deliberately choose the Kingdom of God as our sphere of interest I see no reason why anyone should object. If we lose by it, the loss is our own; if we gain we rob no one by so doing.

Jesus is Everything

'Wherever we turn in the church of God, there is Jesus. He is the beginning, middle and end of everything to us. ...There is nothing good, nothing holy, nothing beautiful, nothing joyous which He is not to His servants. No one need be poor, because, if he chooses, he can have Jesus for his own property and possession. No one need be downcast, for Jesus is the joy of heaven, and it is His joy to enter into sorrowful hearts. We can exaggerate about many things; but we can never exaggerate our obligation to Jesus, or the compassionate abundance of the love of Jesus to us. All our lives long we might talk of Jesus, and yet we should never come to an end of the sweet things that might be said of Him. Eternity will not be long enough to learn all He is, or to praise Him for all He has done, but then, that matters not; for we shall be always with Him, and we desire nothing more.'

Abiding in Jesus Christ

... To let my loving Savior work in me His will, my sanctification, is what I would live for by His grace. Abiding, not striving nor struggling; looking off unto Him; trusting Him for present power... resting in the love of an almighty Savior, in the joy of a complete salvation, "from all sin" -- this is not new, and yet 'tis new to me... Christ literally all seems to me, now, the power, the only power for service, the only ground for unchanging joy...
    How then to have our faith increased? Only by thinking of all that Jesus is and all He is for us: His life, His death, His work, He Himself as revealed to us in the Word, to be the subject of our constant thoughts. Not a striving to have faith... but a looking off to the Faithful One seems all we need; a resting in the Loved One entirely, for time and eternity.
    ... I looked to Jesus, and when I saw -- oh, how joy flowed!

Odd for God!

"A real Christian is an odd number.  He feels supreme love for one whom he has never seen.  He talks familiarly every day to someone he cannot see, expects to go to heaven on the virtue of another, empties himself that he might be full, admits he is wrong so he can be declared right, goes down in order to get up.  He is strongest when he is weakest, richest when he is poorest, happiest when he feels worst.  He dies so he can live, forsakes in order to have, gives away so he can keep, sees the invisible, hears the inaudible, and knows that which passeth knowledge.”                                                                                                       -A. The Father's Love

A father and his small son were taking a ride in the car one afternoon.  A big bee flew in the window.  The boy was severely allergic to bees and in fear for his life started dodging the angry bee.  The bee landed on the dash and the father reached out his hand and caught the bee.  He held onto it for a bit, then let it go.  The boy started dodging the bee again, but his father said, Relax son, the bee cant hurt you anymore.
   Why? the boy asked.

   The father explained that the bee had stung him when he held it in his hand.  The bees stinger was stuck in his hand and it could no longer sting anyone.

   In like manner, Jesus removed the sting of death for us when He died on the cross.  He suffered for us so that we wouldnt have to.

 

 

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”  Romans 5:8,9
